Interpreter/Language Services

The Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans is committed to providing meaningful access to individuals who have limited English proficiency in court proceedings and court operations.

The Court will provide an interpreter for parties in interest, free of charge, in all civil proceedings before the judge and in court operations.

If an individual has limited English proficiency it is often identified at their initial appearance at Court. In some cases, an attorney for a party to a case informs the Court that a particular party needs an interpreter prior to the initial court proceeding and an interpreter is ordered ahead of time.

To arrange for an interpreter in advance, an attorney or self-represented litigant can utilize the court’s Request for Interpreter Order form Civil District Court Request for Interpreter and Order and submit it to the Division where the case is being heard. Please note, this request should be submitted to the Court at least 10 business days prior to the scheduled proceeding, or as soon as the proceeding is placed on the court calendar, whichever occurs first. Counsel is responsible for submitting the request form for their LEP clients or witnesses.

In addition to providing interpreters for all proceedings before a judge, the Court has translated several forms for your understanding and comprehension. Please note, official filings with the Clerk of Court must be in English. The translated versions of the forms listed below can be accessed on our Self-Help Resources page (https://www.orleanscivildistrictcourt.org/selfhelp-resource-center) .
